It is with deep sorrow that Seligson Properties announces the passing of its founder and Chief Executive Officer, Stanley M. Seligson. Seligson peacefully passed away at the age of 90 on September 5, 2024, at his home in Westport, Connecticut. Seligson was born in 1933 in Norwalk, Connecticut. He is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years, Carole Seligson, and their two children, Shana Seligson and Todd Seligson.
Mr. Seligson founded Seligson Properties in 1979 to focus on the investment in, and the development, management and construction of, commercial real estate. Seligson led the company to become a dynamic, forward-thinking commercial real estate firm that has been involved with nearly 3-million square feet of property across multiple asset classes. He was the driving force behind many key developments in Norwalk, including several projects the Connecticut Post said helped “transform Norwalk into a destination”.
In accordance with Seligson’s wishes and the company’s succession plan, Michael G. Serrao, the Chief Operating Officer, has been appointed to serve as the President and Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Stanley, who was an inspiration to all of us. I was fortunate to work closely with Stanley over the last 20 years, learning from his wisdom and leadership. He was not only a mentor to me, but also a friend,” said Mr. Serrao. “I’m honored to step into this role and committed to continuing Stanley’s legacy and the values he instilled in our company. With the support of our dedicated team, I’m confident that Seligson Properties will continue to thrive and grow into the future.”
Seligson was extremely dedicated to his hometown and was proud to support his community. He served as an advisor and board member to many institutions including the Greater Norwalk Chamber of Commerce, The Norwalk YMCA, The Maritime Aquarium, Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum, and many others.
The Seligson Properties team extends our deepest condolences to Stanley’s family, friends, and all who were touched by his life. We will be forever grateful for the foundation he built and the legacy he leaves behind. To read the full obituary, please click here.
